Pure Insight: Moving from Isolation to Independence

The Charles Plater Trust is proud to spotlight Pure Insight, a CPT-supported charity providing long-term, trauma-informed support for care-experienced young people across Cheshire and Greater Manchester. Their latest Impact Report (April 2024–March 2025) reveals a year of sustained growth and life-changing outcomes.

At the heart of this success are the young people themselves. As one participant, Harley, shared on the charity's Achievements page:

"Pure Insight has given me the platform to prove to myself and others that my past doesn’t define my future. Having someone in my corner made all the difference when I felt like I was standing still."

Impact by the Numbers

Over the past year, Pure Insight supported 708 people in total (555 care-experienced young people and 153 of their children).

  • Mentoring: 357 young people received intensive one-to-one support.
  • Life Skills: 96% of participants built essential independent living skills, including budgeting and tenancy management.
  • Mental Health: 94% reported improved wellbeing, supported by psychological outreach and counseling.
  • Connection: 95% of those in peer support groups reported feeling less lonely.

Expanding the Reach

This year marked a strategic expansion into Halton, where the charity has already connected with over half of the local care-leaver cohort. Beyond direct service, Pure Insight is influencing national policy by contributing to the Department for Education’s evaluation of mentoring models.

The "Voice of Change" is no longer just a program—it’s the driving force of the organization. A 26% rise in young people influencing service design ensures that policies are shaped by lived experience. As highlighted on their Voice of Change page, this program empowers young people to move from being "service users" to active change-makers. One participant noted:

"For the first time, I wasn't just a case file. I was an 'Expert by Experience.' Being listened to by the people who make the rules changed how I see my own power."

Breaking Barriers to Employment

The employment, education, and training (EET) team continues to bridge the gap between care and the workplace:

  • 57 young people moved into long-term paid employment.
  • 85 engaged in new education or training pathways.
  • 30,482 hours were gifted by volunteers—a contribution valued at over £600,000.

Through partnerships like Stockport’s “Jumpstart” programme, Pure Insight ensures that work placements translate into sustainable careers.

A Vision for the Future

“With consistent relationships, practical help, and spaces of belonging, young people move from isolation to flourishing lives.” — Pure Insight 2024-25 Impact Summary

As Pure Insight looks toward the future, the focus remains on responding to rising needs and deepening youth participation. The Charles Plater Trust is delighted to continue championing this work. In every borough served, the message remains clear: when we invest in dignity and solidarity, we aren't just supporting individuals—we are strengthening the fabric of our entire community.
