Charles Plater Trust receives 226 applications in 2026 large grant round

The Charles Plater Trust has today published data from its 2026 large grant round, which closed in late February 2026. The Trust received 226 eligible applications, seeking a combined total of £9.1 million in funding.

The round attracted applications from a wide range of charitable organisations across England and Wales, spanning causes including children and young people, education, migration and asylum, vulnerable women and girls, homelessness, disability and mental health.

Key figures from this year’s round include:

  • 226 eligible applications received (down from 313 in 2025)
  • 84 applicants (37%) were faith-based organisations — up from 27% in 2025
  • 29 applications (13%) were from BME-led charities; 8 (4%) from disability-led organisations
  • The largest number of applicants (71) were based in London, followed by the South East (40) and North West (28)
  • Children and Young People was the most common area of need, cited by 59 applications
  • The average grant requested was £40,352
  • £9,119,525 was the combined total financial ask across all applications

Our large grant application statistics this year show a continued high demand for CPT funding support. This is consistent with general philanthropic trends that show the financial pressures on charities are not easing any time soon. The majority of charities report dipping into reserves just to keep going. CPT is committed to continuing to step up. But this brings hard choices for our trustees. We are always humbled by the example of all our grant applicants who make a real difference on the ground and will make our assets work hard to meet the needs they show us.

The Trust will announce grant decisions 6th June 2026.
